CPP Saga: Central C`mtee Has Good Intentions - Chairman Assures Members

In the wake of the challenges confronting the Convention People`s Party after the interdiction of the party General Secretary and the National Youth Organiser of the party, the chairman, Professor Edmund N. Delle has indicated that the Central Committee meant well and were rather calling for the disciplinary committee to do its work perfectly and not to rush.

According to the chairman, the Central Committee was rather pushing for the two to be cleared without any albatross hangings on their necks adding that it was for this reason that the Central Committee humbly urged the Disciplinary Committee to wait for the charge sheet in order to do their work properly.

He mentioned that the party referred to Article 114 Clause B of its constitution which stated that “An officer who is referred to the Disciplinary Committee may be interdicted pending the outcome of disciplinary proceedings.

He indicated that Clause C of the party`s constitution stated that “ Any such officer may be requested to surrender all party properties including documents and files in his or her custody pending the final determination of the matter.

He however referenced Clause D the CPP`s constitution that a member of the party who is referred to the Disciplinary Committee may be prohibited from participating in the activities of the party until the final determination of the matter or for such a time that the Central Committee may deem appropriate.

Professor Delle averred that the party had referred the two officers namely, Comrades Richmond Nii Armah Akomfrah and Ernest Kofi Yeboah back to the Central Committee on the issue of their suspension.

The Convention People`s Party on June 30 announced the suspension of its General Secretary, Nii Armah Akomfrah and National Youth Organiser, Ernesto Yeboah after they publicly condemned President John Mahama for accepting a gift and also demonstrated misconduct that turns to bring the name of the party into disrepute as stipulated by Article 111 B as it states “ if he or she acts of commission or omission which is prejudicial to the good standing of the party or tends to bring the name of the party into disrespect”.

“Until the decision of the Disiciplinary Committee is reported to the Central Committee, Nii Armah Akonfrah and Ernest Yeboah shall be on suspension from Today 30th June, 2016”, a document indicated.

The suspension motion was moved by a comrade in the Central Committee that the two be sent to the Disciplinary Committee to explain certain behaviours of theirs that had brought the party`s reputation into disrepute.

Twenty out of twenty two Central Committee members voted for the motion in the absence of two who had sought permission with regards to their absence.
