Minister Urges An End To The Wrangling At KMA

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Mr. John Alexander Ackon, has appealed to members of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) to turn a new page.

They should smooth over their differences and move quickly to elect a Presiding Member (PM).

He said the deadlock over the choice of the PM must be broken to make the assembly to work.

The stalemate had not been helpful to efforts at speeding up the development of the city and should therefore not continue.

There had been four unsuccessful attempts by the assembly to pick its PM with neither of the two contestants – Nana Kofi Senyah and Baffour Agyei Kesse IV, garnering enough votes to cross the mandatory two-thirds majority threshold.

Mr. Ackon, who is now acting as the Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE), following the resignation of Mr. Kojo Bonsu, was addressing his maiden meeting with the assembly members, heads of department and staff of the KMA.

Accompanied by the Regional Coordinating Director, Mr. Kofi Asubonteng, he indicated that it was important for all to accept to cooperate, show understanding and pull together to bring progress.

They should put the general good of the people ahead of personal interest, he added.
