Pls Pardon UsMontie 3 Petitions President Mahama

The three contemnors who are languishing in jail for threatening judges of the Supreme Court have pleaded with President John Mahama to pardon them since they are first time offenders.

The Supreme Court handed a four-month jail term to the Montie FM host Salifu Maase and his panelists Alistair Nelson and Godwin Ako Gunn after they were found guilty of contempt.

There is a clamor within the ruling NDC for the President to grant them a pardon. Supporters of Mahama’s government have threatened to throw away their votes come the December 7 general elections if he fails to heed their request.

In petition presented to the office of the President, the trio said: “We are first offenders. We expressed, and continue to express, remorse for our unguarded statements and humbly reiterate that in making those statements we never intended to harm any person. We have learnt our lessons and promise to be guided by this bitter and painful experience”.

Meanwhile the The Deputy General Secretary of the ruling NDC Koku Anyidoho says he finds it bizarre the stance taken by persons against petitioning the president to grant the motnie trio a pardon. According to the Mr Anyidoho the double standards on the part of the critics of the advocates of montie 3 freedom is sad and unfortunate. Mr. Anyhidoho who was speaking on current affairs program INSIDE POLITICS on classfm said all that the NDC is seeking to do is use legitimate means to petition the president to grant pardon to the montie trio.

The Deputy Chief Scribewas reacting to comments by The Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Martey, who has stated that those campaigning for the Montie trio to be freed are nation wreckers.

“A nation is an entity, a people ruled by law, so, if there are any people who are a lawless society then they are doomed. [In] a country like America, when you break the law, even if you are the President or a presidential candidate and they get you, you’ll go to jail. I hear some people are saying what the Judges did was not right. Look, threatening to kill a judge, it has happened before in Ghana, whoever has issues with the sentence of these three people are nation wreckers who must be condemned and not entertained,” Prof Martey said.

But Mr Anyidoho says the comments by the Presby Moderator is unfortunate and shouldn’t be coming from a man from of God. He emphasized the crusaders are only using legitimate means to get the jailed montie contemnors out of jail.

“We are not clubbing, we are not pouring acid, we are not killing, we are not maiming and we are not destroying and so it is interesting how some people then will turn around to say those of us who are using legitimate means to get the president to invoke article 72 become nation wreckers? Have we suddenly forgotten about the bible and that the bible admonishes us to forgive and so if as Christians we are asking for forgivenessthen we become sinners or nation wreckers? It’sthatwhat the Christian doctrine says? It said the way a certain section of our society decide to look at thongs when it has to do with the NPP then they are all for it, but its different when it has to do with the NDC then we are enemies of the state. It’s unfortunate. How do you describe us as nation wreckers when all we are seeking to do is allow dues process to take its course? But I can assure them that we are resolute on our stance
