Exhibition & Re-Registration Exercise: Dont Listen To Any Politician . . . - EC Tells Ghanaians

Following the ongoing voter exhibition exercise and re-registration of voters who used NHIS cards to register in the last election, the Head of Communications for the Electoral Commission (EC) has advised the general public facing challenges with the exercise to contact the office of EC.

According to him, Ghanaians who are taking part in the ongoing exercise should not depend on the information of the politicians if they don’t understand anything, and as well want clarification about the exhibition exercise.

Information going round has it that some Ghanaians have started complaining bitterly about the exercise as they say their names have been deleted from the voters’ register even though they did not use NHIS cards for the registration.

Again, many have complained that their names are not in any of the NHIS list and the voters’ register; thus they are threatening to go for the re-registration.

But Mr. Eric Dzakpasu, Head of Communications on Okay FM’s 'Ade Akye Abia' Morning Show has admonished Ghanaians who are facing any of these challenges to visit the office of the Electoral Commission (EC) to address the issues individually.

“This is not a matter of group of people or political parties complaining of names being taken off; it is a matter of individuals coming to the office of Electoral Commission (EC). Don’t listen to any politician but simply come to our office especially the individuals who did not use NHIS cards for the registration but their names are deleted,” he admonished.

He reminded that it will amount to double registration to those non-NHIS card registrants to listen to advice of politicians urging them to go for the re-registration instead of reporting the issue to EC.

Mr. Eric Dzakpasu therefore encouraged all and sundry to help the Electoral Commission (EC) to have a clean voters’ register and organise a credible 2016 elections as the Commission cannot do it alone.

The Electoral Commission (EC) on Monday began the exhibition of the voters register to give the electorate the opportunity to verify their personal details ahead of the general election.

The exercise, which is expected to run till August 7, 2016, will also allow persons whose names have been deleted from the register for using National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) cards to register to re-register, in line with a Supreme Court ruling.
