Regional Steering Committee Endorses Suspension Of Officers

The Brong-Ahafo Regional Steering Committee of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) has expressed strong backing for the decision to suspend two national officers of the party for acts of indiscipline.

The party’s General Secretary, Nii Armah Akomfrah, and the National Youth Organizer, Mr. Ernesto Yeboah, have been suspended over what is said to be distasteful conduct.

The pair are reported to have chastised and humiliated the presidential candidate, Mr. Ivor Kobina Greenstreet, for his stance on a Ford vehicle gift to President John Mahama by a Burkinabe contractor.

At an emergency meeting in Sunyani, the Steering Committee hailed the CPP’s Central Committee for acting boldly.

It noted that the party, which remained a third force in Ghana’s multi-party democracy needed to uphold discipline to make strong showing in the coming elections.

Mr. Ali Adam Mohammed, the Regional Chairman, warned that any form of indiscipline if not tackled could break the rank and file and narrow the party’s chances in the general election.

“If discipline is not maintained in the party we are likely to lose majority of our members, lose the respect of Ghanaians in general, and ruin our chances in the general election”, he added.

He stated that the new CPP under the leadership of Mr. Greenstreet recognized that indiscipline remained a challenge, something that had done huge damage to the unity of many of the political parties in the country.

The party’s leadership was therefore determined to take decisive action to prevent any misconduct likely to weaken its front.
