Ex President Flt Lt Jerry John Rawlings did not spring a surprise visit on President John Mahama at the Flagstaff House on Tuesday, his Office has said.

Additional, he did not discuss matters concerning the National Democratic Congress and the 2016 elections. There have been reports that the former President paid an unannounced visit to the Seat of Government, an alleged action some political watchers found worrying.

However a statement signed by Kobina Andoh Amoakwa, an officer at the Communications Directorate of the Office  of the Ex President Office disclosed that four persons including two Kenyan youth development experts accompanied President Rawlings to the pre-arranged meeting.

“The two parties held fruitful discussions on issues pertaining to collaboration on development opportunities for Ghanaian youth, with the support of the government of Ghana. Also on the agenda was a discussion on serious challenges facing some sectors of the aviation industry.”

The statement added that “Flt Lt Jerry John Rawlings did exchange brief pleasantries with Vice-President Paa Kwesi Amissah Arthur after his scheduled meeting with President Mahama. The meeting was not a surprise visit and general public should ignore any other reports on the matter.”
