Prosecute Parties Involved In Smartty's Bus Rebranding Scandal - CPP Communicator Chides Gov't

Yaw Nkunim, member of the Convention People's Party (CPP) Communications team, has called on government to prosecute the parties involved the Smartty's bus rebranding scandal.

The government contracted Smartty's Management Limited to rebrand some 116 Metro Mass Transit (MMT) buses but the deal courted controversy when it was disclosed that the amount spent on the buses was bloated.

The scandal further saw the Transport Minister Dzifa Attivor resigning due to her involvement in securing the deal.

Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, implored the Attorney General to ensure that Smartty's refund the bloated money to Ghanaians.

Following investigations, the Attorney General ordered the Smartys Company to refund the amount and a report on the investigations into the scandal directed by Hon. Julius Debrah has been presented with details not yet made public.

Speaking on Peace FM's 'kokrokoo', Yaw Nkunim stated that asking Smartty's to refund the money shouldn't be the only solution to the scandal.

According to him, this is a "clear case of theft" and so, the government should move on to prosecute any person who has his or her hands soiled by the bus scandal.

He told host Kwami Sefa Kayi that "refunding the money is not enough. We have to prosecute all those involved in the case.”

To the CPP Communicator, bringing the culprits to book will show the government's commitment to stop corruption in the country.
