Wontumi's Detention An Abuse Of Political Power - Kwamena Duncan

Central Regional Secretary of New Patriotic Party (NPP) Kwamena Duncan says the detention of the party's Ashanti Regional Chairman in Police custody was a grand scheme by the government.

According to him, an "order from above" called for the Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Bosiako, popularly called Chairman Wontumi, to be held for hours without bail.

He noted on Peace FM's 'kokrokoo' that 'Chairman Wontumi' was detained in order to "show him where power lies."

“We are not fighting against flesh and blood. It is a direct order. People who are under pressure couldn’t contain it and had to put it out there. We are aware of the direct order that they should detain Wontumi and show him where power lies . . . This is all part of machinations.”

'Chairman Wontumi' was held in Police custody for allegedly assaulting the Member of Parliament for Manhyia North Collins Amankwah and the Constituency Secretary, Collins Owusu.

Though the Asokwa District Magistrate court presided by Judge Owusu Korkor has granted Wontumi bail for a sum of 20,000 cedis with two sureties, Kwamena Duncan believes "it's all abuse of political power" for him (Wontumi) to have ended up in Police custody.
