I Havent Been DroppedDisregard Daily Guide's 'Hollow Story' - Yamoah Ponkor

Former Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Ejisu-Juaben Municipal Assembly in the Ashanti Region, Yamoah Ponkor Afrifa has dismissed Tuesday edition of the Daily Guide publication which claims that he has been dropped for failing on two consecutive occasion to win back the MCE seat.

The embattled former MCE described the Daily Guide publication as 'hollow' which does not demand any response as there is no concrete evidence, except its baseless report it claims to have from an NDC Executive meeting.

According to Daily Guide Tuesday Edition, unconfirmed reports say the appointment of Kwaku Afrifa Yamoah Ponkor, President Mahama’s nominee for the position of Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the Ejisu-Juaben Assembly has been withdrawn.

It again indicated that a source close to the Assembly has revealed that Mr. Ponkor has been replaced with Nana Prempeh, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate, following a meeting held among officers at the ward and constituency levels, some members of the National Executive Committee and the regional executive committee.

The newspaper however indicated in its publication that there is no official communication from the presidency authenticating Yamoah Ponkor’s withdrawal. The nominee still has the opportunity to seek re-election from the assembly members.

But reacting to the publication, Mr. Yamoah Ponkor averred on Okay Fm’s Ade Akye Abia Morning Show that the story cannot be true as he cannot be replaced.

According to him, there are legal implications associated with droping a candidate who secured 50 percent vote in the last Municipal Assembly election.

He added that the only way out in the Ejisu-Juaben Municipal Assembly scenario is a re-run of the elections and not a replacement as indicated in the Daily Guide publication.

“This is not an issue to discuss this morning. I think the proper place to call to confirm this story is the Ministry or the Flagstaff House for instance . . . or call the Daily Guide to explain the story because this is hollow; but you don’t have to blame them because for a long time now, they use me to sell their paper. They have never published anything good about Yamoah Ponkor before and so as far as I know I have not heard and received anything such this . . .maybe it is now on its way to me,” Yamoah Ponkor debunked.
