Dzifa Attivors Ethnocentric Comment Has Exposed NDC - NPP V/R Chair

Chairman of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Volta Region, Mr John Peter Amewu says the ethnocentric statement made by former Transport Minister, Dzifa Attivor to seek favour from the people of Volta Region means the ruling NDC party is dispirited with the region.

According to him, the former Transport Minister’s comment is meant to arouse ‘Voltarians’ to come out in their numbers to take part in the limited registration exercise which opens on Thursday April 28, 2016 by the Electoral Commission (EC).

Former Transport minister Dzifa Attivor says the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is a tribal party bent on prosecuting only Ewes if it wins the general elections in November.

Referring to the record of the NPP government from 2001 to 2008, Dzifa Attivor argued the NPP targeted only members of her ethnic group for prosecution.

“When the NPP won power in 2001, most ministers who are Ewes were imprisoned, including Serlomey and Abodakpi and a host of other ministers. Does that mean that no individual from any other tribe has faulted in the discharge of their duties”? she said in her native language.

But reacting to this comment, John Peter Amewu on Okay FM’s Ade Akye Abia Morning Show told sit-in host Nana Yaw Kesse that Dzifa Attivor’s assertion is not only on tribal sentiment but it is also not true as the likes of Mr Sippa Yankey, Kwame Peprah, Mallam Issah and others from different tribes were tried by a competent court of jurisdiction.

He added that it cannot be true that per the remark by the former Transport Minister, Woyome who was tried by the NDC government also meant that NDC is victimising people from Volta Region.

He however explained that “she is doing this purposely because the registration period is closer and she thinks that using these tribal words will help her get some favours from them and come out in their numbers to register”.

“This cannot be accepted because the people are crying that there is no money in their pocket…they cannot pay their hospital bills and the NHIS is in a state of collapse, unemployment is very high and the standard of education in Volta Region is falling”, he indicated.

He again stressed that the NDC government has created apathy in the region as the people of Volta Region cannot have two-square meal a day but the government carries logistics to the Togolese national, asking them to come and register; thus the people in Volta Region are dispirited to come out to register due to their displeasure in the NDC government.

“…they are calling on the people to come out to register and vote for them but the people are not willing because the NDC carries logistics from Ghana and gives them to the Togolese national to coerce them to register in Ghana; meanwhile, the same Ghanaians, you don’t give them anything and that is why they are saying they won’t register if they continue to give logistics to Togolese national”, he asserted.
