EC Has Good Rapport With All Political Parties Charlotte Osei Affirms

The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Mrs Charlotte Osei says that her outfit has no beef with any political party but rather consistently engages with all the so far 25 registered political parties in the country.

“Indeed if you look at the election calendar issued in December 2015, there are scheduled IPAC meetings every month of which all political parties have a copy, therefore we engage political parties a lot . . .”

According to her she sometimes cannot comprehend why some political parties come out of IPAC meetings telling the media different things and all sort of lies that contradict what they (political parties and the EC) discussed at a meeting.

To her this is not a fact to show that the EC has no good relationship with the media, since mischief is a big part of politics.

“Individuals must also learn to be more discerning and challenging of what they hear, and as well question out to make their own truths. We can’t impose meanings and interpretations on people when everybody has his/her free will to choose what they want.”

She indicated that “Our duty is to communicate with the public making them aware of issues agreed on with our stakeholders and also to engage the various political parties as we always do.”

She said it is never true that the EC is not applying the decisions taken by the Steering Committee, because all the processes used by the EC now towards the coming polls were recommendations from the committee.

“The committee would still be contacted when the NCCE or the EC needs any information concerning any sector,” Charllote Osei said.
