Akomea Warns NPP Serial Callers

Director of Communications of the New Patriotic Party, Nana Akomea has cautioned serial callers of the biggest opposition party who distaste the party’s 2016 flag bearer, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to “leave the party” if they are not ready to rally round him for victory in the November 7 polls.

According to Nana Akomea, the NPP will no longer tolerate party members who either secretly or openly undermine Nana Akufo-Addo in order to deny the biggest opposition party opportunity of coming back to power.

The former Communications Minister in the Kufuor government sounded the note of caution at a meeting with NPP serial callers at the party’s Asylum Down headquarters last Friday, March 11, 2016.

The meeting, which was attended by deputy General Secretary, Nana Obiri Boahen; Communications team member, Yaw Adomako Baafi, Nana Akomea and the serial callers, was called to discuss some lingering issues affecting the serial callers, including whether to rerun a disputed election that was annulled by Nana Akomea after loyalist of the NPP flag bearer protested its outcome.

Early this year, The aL-hAJJ reported how Nana Akomea annulled elections organized by the party’s Serial Callers Association after Nana Akufo-Addo’s preferred candidates rejected results of the elections.

Reports are that soon after then General Secretary, Kwabena Agyei Agyapong, who supervised the election in July last year was suspended, the serial callers were invited to a meeting during which one Lord-La, a known ally of Nana Akufo-Addo and who until the elections was President of the Serial callers association, claimed the previous election was conducted in his absence, therefore it was a coup d’état.

Based on this protest, a meeting was convened at the party’s headquarters on December 28 last year by Nana Akomea during which, he yielded to Lord-La and his group’s demand and went on to annul the election.

“That day some of the newly elected executives were there. Nana Akomea, John Boadu, Yaw Adomako Baafi, Mike Ocquaye Jnr and others were all present when Akomea annulled the election and announced that fresh elections will be conducted at the end of this month (January),” the source revealed.

Apparently, the election was annulled for fresh election because “People secretly went to Nana to tell him that the newly elected executives are not his favorites so he should find a way to get rid of them and bring back Lord-La and Odehyia.”

Even though Nana Akomea promised to conduct fresh elections at the end of January this year, it has not materialized, perhaps, because of The aL-hAJJ’s publication which exposed the machinations and also threats by some of the serial callers not partake in the rerun.

Meanwhile, at the last Friday meeting Nana Akomea was not amused by the conduct of some of the serial callers he accused of leaking classified information to the media. The meeting however came to an end without any concrete decision as whether to rerun the election or not.

“The current executives are just acting…we will decide on whether to rerun the election or not in April when we meet,” Nana Akomea noted.
