Government To Solve Damongo Water Crisis

Mr Abdallah Abubakari, the Northern Regional Minister, has said the Government is ready to provide potable water to the people of Damongo in the West Gonja District of the region.

He said the Government was in the process of accessing an EXIM Bank facility to provide potable water to the people of the District and its environs.

Mr Abdallah said this when he paid a courtesy call on the Overlord of the Gonja Traditional Area, Yagbonwura Tuntumba Bore Essa, at the Jakpa Palace at Damongo, on Monday.

The Minister, who assumed office barely a month ago, was at the Jakpa Palace to seek the support and blessings of the Overlord  to enable him to successfully steer the affairs of the Region.

He was accompanied by Alhaji A.B.A Fuseini, the Deputy Northern Regional Minister.

Damongo has been without potable water for several years now, thus making women and children to walk long distances in search of water.

Mr Abubakari commended the Yagbonwura for his role as a member of the Eminent Chiefs working to bring lasting solution to the Dagbon chieftaincy crisis in the Region.

He appealed to the Yagbonwura to help to address pockets of threats to the peace in the area to facilitate development.

Yagbonwura Bore Essa described Mr Abubakari as ‘the right choice to lead the region.’

The Minister later called on Bolewura Pontompron Awuladese (II), the Paramount Chief of Bole Traditional Area, at his Palace at Bole.

He also addressed the opening of the 38th Northern Regional Super Zonal Sports Festival at Bole Senior High School (SHS) and urged the students to avoid destruction of school property as a means of registering their displeasure over undesirable circumstances.

The week-long event would see SHS students from about 11 zones in the Region competing in various sports disciplines such as football, volleyball and athletics, after which prizes would be presented to best performing schools.
