The chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Kofi Portuphy, has urged members of the party to build relationships that would serve as an impetus for every Ghanaian to vote for the NDC.
He said members of the party whether holding positions or not should do things that would attract more people to the party instead of actions that would drive people away.
"It is the way we relate with people, our transparency, attitudes and utterances that would make the people of this country vote for us in both the presidential and parliamentary elections," he said.
" We might be delivering to every home electricity, water, for good health but our relationship with the people must be an impetus of every member of the electorate to feel like going out to vote for us. "There is also therefore the need to make amends at the constituency levels to settle all differences, especially during the party's parliamentary primaries, so that with united front we will win the 2016 election," he said.
Mr Portuphy was opening a three- day election stakeholders workshop for members of the party in Koforidua, yesterday.
The workshop is being attended by members of the national executive committee, regional ministers, regional secretaries and organisers and directors of elections of the party.
He advised members of the party to be abreast of the dos and don’ts of the electoral process in the country as directed by the Supreme Court in the election petition.
Mr Portuphy said "if you are not familiar with the dos and don'ts, go and read all so as to avoid the experience of the past”.
Election Directorate of NDC
He called on the members of the election directorate of NDC to work tirelessly and be truthful and transparent and advised regional ministers to give maximum support to the directorate to enable them to perform efficiently and effectively.
"To us at the national level we are taking steps to equip the directorate. However, some offices of the directorate are not functioning and have never opened for business activities. I therefore call on those offices to open immediately for party activities to go on," he added.
Agenda 50/50 and a million votes
Touching on the agenda 50-50 and one million votes for the Eastern Region and the Ashanti Region respectively, the NDC national chairman gave an assurance that resources would be put at their disposal to enable them to achieve the targets.
He therefore urged the two regions to work harder, be courageous and be ready to "combat them when attempts are being made to defranchise our people".
The Majority Leader in Parliament, Mr Alban Bagbin, said the NDC was confident and committed to winning the 2016 elections .
He congratulated the participants on their loyalty and commitment to the party, adding that winning of this year's election was very crucial, since signals showed that it would not be easy and therefore thanked the National Executive Committee of the party for putting in place a number of activities to galvanise the party towards the elections.
He also urged party members to be vigilant on election day since that "is the key to winning elections as you don’t win elections through the Electoral Commission or the Courts”.
The National Organiser of the party, Mr Kofi Adams, urged supporters of the party to continue to remain loyal to the NDC.
The out-going Eastern Regional Minister, Mr Antwi Boasiako Sekyere, said the party would leave no stone unturned to make agenda 50-50 a reality.
