The Electoral Commission (EC) has dismissed media reports that the five-member panel engaged to study various submissions on the voters register has submitted its report to the Commission.

According to the EC, the panel, chaired by Professor V.C.R.A.C. Crabbe is yet to complete its work and that no report has been submitted to the Commission. A news story purportedly published by the Al-Hajj newspaper and circulating on social media claimed that the five-member panel has finished its work and recommended that the EC should change the voter’s register.

But a press statement issued on Tuesday and signed by the Acting Director of Public Affairs of the EC, Mr Christian Owusu-Parry, denied that anything of that sort had happened.

He entreated the public to disregard the reports, adding that the public would be informed of the recommendations of the panel and the final decision taken by the Commission on the register as soon as the requisite processes were concluded.

The EC in October named a five-man panel headed by Professor V.C.R.A.C. Crabbe; Most Reverend Professor Emmanuel Asante; Dr. Grace Bediako, Dr. Nii Narku Quaynor; and Maulvi Bin Salih to conduct public hearing on the voters register controversy following calls from some political parties and civil society groups for a new voters’ register.

Meanwhile, the EC has suspended the replacement of lost or damaged voter’s identity cards until further notice.
