Kwabena Agyapong Swerves NPP NEC Meeting

In what many party faithfuls consider as his subtle attempt to revolt against his party, the General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party(NPP), Mr. Kwabena Agyapong, was missing at the crunch National Executive Council (NEC) meeting at their headquarters, yesterday in Accra.

The packed-to-capacity meeting, attended by Executives numbering close to a hundred, including the flagbearer, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo, and his running mate, Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia, deliberated on matters arising out of the party’s request for a new voters’ register, their outstanding constituency elections, and plans for the upcoming bye-election at Amenfi West following the death of Hon. John Gyetuah.

However, the matter of the party’s Financial Administrator, one Mr. Tetteh, allegedly sitting on the Electoral Commission’s letter meant for the party in respect of their petition for the new voters’ register was put on the back burner until the next Steering Committee meeting, which is coming up soon.

The paper also gathered from the meeting that the flagbearer would be announcing his Campaign Team for election 2016 at the next Steering Committee meeting.

In a separate interview,  the Communications Director of the party, Nana Akomea indicated that this particular meeting had been one of the most heavily attended NEC meetings in a long while and by far the most successful deliberations they had had since the new Executives came into office. He said it was so clear that everyone was happy after the meeting by the way they were all full of smiles and the show of camaraderie between members.

Earlier, the National Council had also met to affirm the decision of the suspension of its National Chairman, Mr. Paul Afoko, and to confirm the first Vice Chair, Mr. Freddie Blay, as the Acting National Chairman.

Some other key members of the party present at the meeting included: Mr. CK Tedam(member of Council of Elders), Hon. Dan Botwe(MP), Mr. Mac Manu(former Chairman), Mr. Abankwa Yeboah(National  Treasurer), Mr. Bernard Antwi- Boasiako (Ashanti Regional Chairman), Mr. Hackman Owusu Agyeman, and many others.
