Alhaji Mahama Bulesa, the chairman of the Tema East National Democratic Congress (NDC) has said the biometric registration of party members and the abandonment of the closed electoral college system help to decentralise and democratise political parties.
According to him, most political parties had leadership problems because the people who lead them are not the choice of the broad masses because only a few people choose them on their behalves.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency at Tema, on the November 7 primary of the Party, he said allegations of bribery of delegates would cease in the NDC because it was impossible to bribe all party members in an area to vote for a particular candidate.
He said the biometric registration and subsequent voting would prepare party members for the general election.
According to him, political parties should not only concentrate on winning power but also educate members on how to vote, the need to vote, and other civic responsibilities.
Alhaji Bulesa said the biometric registration would give the NDC the exact information on the population of the party’s membership, which would help it plan and execute policies that would benefit all.
He called on the party executives not to campaign for any candidate because that would polarise the party.
“This is an opportunity for candidates to go the people and sell their messages,” he said. “This will also prepare them for campaigning in the general election.”
