Sunyani Residents Lambast Chief For Campaigning For Mahama

Some residents of Sunyani in the Brong Ahafo Region have taken issues with the Chief of the area for suggesting that about 80% of inhabitants of the region, will vote for President John Mahama’s NDC-led administration in the 2016 general elections.

This is the assurance that was given by Nana Bosoma Asor Nkrawiri to President Mahama, following what he described as satisfactory development brought to the area by the NDC government.

The comments of Nana Bosoma Asor Nkrawiri come days after the chief of Kukurantumi in the Eastern Region also reportedly assured President Mahama of 50 percent of the total votes in the region.

Chiefs have repeatedly been criticized for throwing caution to the wind by ignoring the law that bars them from meddling in politics as it’s often the case when elections are approaching.

Nana Bosoma Asor Nkrawiri gave the assurance when he addressed a gathering at Sunyani during President Mahama’s visit to the region.

But some residents of Sunyani in an interview with Citi News condemned the chief’s pronouncements adding development in the region, is not satisfactory to warrant the heaping of such praises on the incumbent government.

“I must be honest with you that things are hard so saying 80% of people will vote for him may not be true because that is not the reflection on the ground. So I think it’s unfortunate for the chief to make that comment because everywhere you go people are feeling the heat “a resident said.

Another resident said “It is not the right thing for the chief to say; he should have first checked around to know what’s going on.

Everyone is complaining about our finances and people are not getting work to do; there is nothing to show that we are going forward so there is nothing good I can say about the economy. So he [chief] should have spoken to his people before making that comment”.

“Chiefs don’t do that but for him those in Sunyani know him as an NDC member” a resident alleged.
