A final-year student of the Prempeh College in Kumasi has died after falling from the second floor of his dormitory.

Samuel Asare Bediako, alias Classicals, a Form 3 Business student is suspected to have died on the spot from the impact of the fall, while his colleague, Tabiri Kofi Boateng, also a Form There Science student, sustained multiple fractures and is recuperating at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH).

The incident, said to have happened on Friday at about 5:30pm, has put the students, teaching and non-teaching staff at the College in a state of shock.

The two final-year students were said to be engaged in the usual students’ frolics when they fell from the second floor of the Opoku Ware II House, a newly constructed dormitory.

Student witness
Speaking to this reporter on condition of anonymity, a Form Three student said it all happened around 5.30pm on Friday when they heard shouts from some of the students who were outside their various rooms and standing on the corridor.

He said when they came out they saw their colleagues on the floor motionless and they rushed to pick them up while their house master was informed.

He said they were rushed to the KATH and after about three hours, they were informed that Samuel Asare Bediako could not survive.

His body has since been deposited at the mortuary.

The witness said students had been cautioned to be careful about the fencing on the veranda and not to go close to it.
The fencing consists of pillars and metal pipes.

Authorities of the school were not immediately available to comment.
