Sixty-five parliamentary aspirants for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) primaries in 28 out of the 29 constituencies in the Brong Ahafo Region have been cleared to contest.
Vetting in the Techiman North Constituency, where Mr Alex Kyeremeh, a Deputy Minister for Education, and Mr Prince Opoku Mensah are vying for the seat, was deferred. The issue has been referred to the party�s headquarters in Accra for the outcome to be determined within one week.
Aspiring candidates
The aspiring candidates from the 29 constituencies in the region include four women. They are Dr Hanna Louisa Bissiw, Deputy Minister for Agriculture; Ms Dora Amma Tamea, Ms Victoria Lakshmi Hamah and Ms Felicia Adjei.
Unopposed
Ten of the aspirants went unopposed, while six agreed to step down during the vetting in the interest of the party.
The seven-member vetting committee was chaired by Alhaji Huudu Yahaya, a former General Secretary of the NDC.
Fair vetting
Briefing the press after the vetting, the Communication Officer of the NDC, Mr James Asante, said it was fair, hectic and violent free.
He said questions centred on one�s eligibility, competence, dedication and loyalty to the party.
The Second Deputy Majority Chief Whip, Mr Ahmed Ibrahim, who has been elected unopposed for the third time in the Banda Constituency, in an interview said his going unopposed was the response of people in the constituency.
He said when he won the parliamentary seat in 2008, he learnt many lessons and had since paid attention to the needs of people in the constituency and added that �even though l am going unopposed, l am not complacent.�
