Religious Leaders Should Preach Unity - Minister

Alhaji Mohammed-Muniru Limuna, the Northern Regional Minister, has called on religious leaders to continue to preach messages of peace and unity to help prevent conflicts. Alhaji Limuna made the call on Thursday when he joined hundreds of Muslims at the Jubilee Park in Tamale to offer prayers to Allah to mark this years Eid-ul Adha. Eid-ul Adha commemorates Prophet Abrahams willingness to obey Allah when he envisioned that he was to sacrifice his son, and the day is observed by slaughtering an animal and offering part of its meat in charity to the poor in society and neighbours as well. Alhaji Limuna said preaching of peace and unity was the only way we can collectively develop our society and be able to deal with poverty, disease, hunger and deprivation. He said: Our region for some time now is noted to be fragile due to the numerous conflicts, a situation which does not augur well for development. Alhaji Limuna, therefore, emphasised the need for all to instill discipline in the youth to enable them to lead responsible lives and encouraged them to seek knowledge and resist the temptation of the get-rich-quick attitude. He called on parents to invest more in the education of their children to prepare them for the changing work environment. Sheik Ahmed Abdul Salam, Chief Imam of Tamale Central Mosque, who led the prayers, urged the youth to be submissive to their parents as well as respect the laws of the land to ensure a peaceful coexistence. He reminded Muslims that Islam detested vices and deviant behaviour and urged them to lead lives that portrayed them as true Muslims.
