Skirt And Blouse Voting @ Korle Klottey, As NDC Supporters Declare Support For Addisons Opponent

Some Known card bearing members of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Klottey Korle constituency of the Greater Accra Region have declared their intention to vote for the elected New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate, Valentino Nii Noi Nortey because his is a native of the area.

According to them, it is the first time that the constituency had seen an indigene seeking to represent the constituents in parliament and the least they could do is to support a candidate who understands their plight.

They made this known to the Daily Heritage after the NPP parliamentary candidate-elect, whose victory is being contested by lawyer Philip Addison, distributed items to the various traditional heads, the family heads and the opinion leaders ahead of today’s Homowo festival.

The head of family for Dowuona We, William Nortey Dowouna, said, “he is our son, our brother and one of our own so we will vote for him.”

“…Apart from the government, Accra Metropolitan Assembly and some few organizations, no parliamentary candidate or Member of Parliament has come to support us in our festival. It is unprecedented that a parliamentary candidate-elect has come to support us. This is the first time a candidate has come to do this for us. Once he is here, he will win and he will go to parliament. We support him and the NPP flag bearer, Nana Akufo-Addo to also win.”

“I’m an NDC chairman somewhere here and we the NDC will vote skirt and blouse. For Nii Noi Nortey he is our man and our own person. We’ve known him for a very long time. We the NDC members here will vote for him.

“This man comes from here (Osu). He knows our tradition and customs and so when we vote him as Member of Parliament, these litigations and chieftaincy disputes will stop. This is not a matter of NDC, but the candidate. If NPP brings any other candidate here he will lose,” Nii Kwaku Dzateng noted.

Mr. Nortey told the paper after donating the items that the aim was to support the traditional festival in the area and also to introduce himself to the elders in the area.

He said, “Klottey Korle is a traditional seat, as sons and daughters of the land, we thought it wise to join hands with the chiefs, the traditional heads and the opinion leaders to celebrate the Homowo festival.”

Mr. Nortey who said the donation was part of his corporate social responsibility welcomed the idea of the NDC sympathizers throwing their weight behind him and urged all to come out and vote massively for him and Nana Addo come 2016.

“I’m looking forward to see more of the NDC members join me. Who knows, if we get 100% we will like it.”

The items worth thousands of Ghana Cedis included bags of corn, palm oil, palm fruits and an undisclosed amount of money.

He was joined by the constituency chairperson, Juliana Aboagye, the regional organizer, Archibald Cobbina, Prince Obeng, regional youth organizer and constituency polling station and electoral area executives.
