VRA�s Fletcher Joins NDC MP Race At Gomoa West Constituency

The ruling National Democratic Congress upcoming primaries continues to attract new ‘faces’ with each passing day as Head of Corporate Communications at Volta River Authority, Samuel Kwesi Fletcher, is lacing his boot to stake a claim to the Gomoa West seat.

Although he is yet to publicly declared his intension to contest the seat, credible information available to The aL-hAJJ indicates that the Gomoa West constituency has been awash with posters announcing Mr. Fletcher’s candidature.

Reports are that the VRA Head of Corporate Communications has disclosed to constituency executives and party supporters in the constituency of his intension to contest the November 7 primaries and has since engaged in subtle campaigns to snatch the slot from its present occupant, Francis Kojo Arthur.

Sources in the Gomoa West constituency disclosed to this paper that, Sam Fletcher has assembled a team that has in the past weeks being engaged in vigorous campaign to warm his way into the hearts of majority of party delegates.

He is likely to face stiff competition from the incumbent MP, Francis Kojo Arthur, who is also said to have announced his intension to seek reelection.

Since the ruling party announced date for its impending primaries to elect parliamentary candidates and presidential candidate for the 2016 elections, some interesting ‘big’ names have popped up as likely aspirants.

So far, three top journalists, Eric Don Arthur, Gabriel AbeekuAggrey Santana and Alhassan S. Suhuyini have all confirmed their intension to contest the NDC parliamentary primaries.

While Radio Gold’s morning show host, Suhuyini has kick start campaign to grab the Tamale North seat, ace broadcaster, Eric Don Arthur is going for the Effutu seat, with Abeeku Santana of OK Fm, oiling his political guns to step in the shoes of Central regional minister and MP for Mfantseman West, Aquinas Tawiah Quansah.

Other TV personalities seeking to launch their parliamentary ambition on the ticket of the NDC include Comedian and actor Kwame Dzokoto who is contesting the Tarkwa Nsuaem seat, and the 2011 first runner-up in Ghana’s Most Beautiful, Miss Jacqueline AkweleyNartey-Amu, who has also declared his readiness to contest the Ablekuma West seat.

There are also reports that brother of late President Mills, Samuel Mills would be contesting the Komenda Edina EguafoAbrem seat while presidential staffer, Samuel George Nartey is expected to lock horns with veteran legislator, E T Mensah at the Prampram constituency.

Executive Director of National Service Scheme, Dr Michael Kpessa Whyte, and presidential staffer, Clement AsinaabApaak are also reported seeking to grab the ShaiOsudoku and Builsa South seats respectively.

Also, deputy Executive Director of National Youth Authority, Peter BoamahOtokunor; deputy Communications Minister, Felix OfosuKwakye; deputy Minister of Transport, Joyce BawaMogtari and Ambassador to China, Sam Pee Yalley have been reported to have started campaigns to grab parliamentary candidate slots in the Ablekuma Central, Ablekuma North, Ayawaso Central and Ahanta West constituencies respectively.

There are also reports that several new ‘faces’ have confirmed their readiness to join the long queue of NDC activists seeking to be elected parliamentary candidates in the November 7 constituency primaries.
