The former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Hon. Dan Botwe who is also the Member of Parliament for Okere Constituency has condemned the action of the Police and the BNI which he described as �unlawful�. The MP was speaking in reaction to the arrest and detention of Hon. Asamoah Boateng by the BNI, which sparked off anger and led some NPP faithfuls to demonstrate at the premises of the BNI office, leading to the firing of guns and live bullets. Condemning the actions of the police, the MP revealed that he was at the scene during the action of the police and it was �so unprofessional�. According to him, the police were chasing and firing at the crowd, �and even when they decided to run away, they still chased them � �are they criminals�, he inquired? Descending on the BNI, the MP said the action of the BNI is contrary to the laws and the constitution of the country. He claimed that they detained Hon. Asamoah Boateng without charge � �how can you lock-up someone without charge? he asked. Hon. Asamoah Boateng was taken into the BNI cells by the security personnel who claimed they were acting on �orders from above�. According to the former Minister�s counsel, he had gone to the BNI office for two reasons; first to enquire as to why he and his family had been prevented from travelling on two occasions, and to honour an invitation by the BNI to answer some questions. The counsel revealed that the former minister was there to answer questions for alleged malfeasance in the award of a contract to his sister-in-law for the refurbishment of the information ministry last year. In a related development, our reporter Obeng Manu who is at the BNI office, has said there are rumours that Asamoah Boateng will be processed for court today, but that is yet to be confirmed.
