UPP Satisfied With 2012 Voters Register; Says It Is Credible For 2016 Election

The United Progressive Party (UPP) strongly believes that the 2012 voters’ register is cleaner and credible for the conduct of the 2016 Presidential and Parliamentary Elections.

According to the party, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and civil society organizations calling for a new voters’ registration for the 2016 elections have no reasonable justification.

In a UPP press release it says if the NPP and Nana Addo claim they won the 2012 elections with the same 2012 voters’ register and then later asserted the register was bloated, then Nana Akufo-Addo and NPP would have won the 2012 election with a bloated register.

“Where were NPP General Secretary and Nana Addo when the Electoral Commission was compiling the 2012 voters’ register? And what is the guaranteed that in case the Electoral Commission heed to the call of the NPP to compile a new voters register for the 2016 general elections there will be absolutely no abnormally or irregularities? What NPP and Nana Addo urgently need for the battle 2016 is a sense of purpose and strong unity,” it chided.

It noted that a Party with leadership crisis and deep seated divisions can never win the 2016 general elections even if Electoral Commission employ the service of Heaven Angels to compile a new voters’ register for the 2016 general elections.

The statement however called on Nana Addo to put his party in order as that is what NPP supporters and Ghanaians are expecting from him and not a call for new voters’ register.

“If you cannot work with your National Chairman and General Secretary, what is the hope and guaranteed that you can unite 25 million Ghanaians if you become the President? Recruiting well educated Polling Agents and giving them the necessary training and motivation is very important for elections victory since elections are won at the Polling stations,” the party advised.
