Another Brutality: NDC Women Organiser Butchered

The Deputy Western Regional Women’s’ Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Madam Araba Tagoe, is in critical condition at the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) hospital in Takoradi, after sustaining severe cutlass wounds by an unknown assailant in her house on Monday.

Madam Tagoe sustained deep cuts on her head, hands, chest and waist and bled profusely. She was quickly rushed to the GPHA hospital by neighbours who chanced on her lying in a pool of blood.

Hospital officials however say she is responding to treatment. The suspect is on the run.

It is however not clear what might have caused the attack on the NDC women leader but some party insiders suspect foul play from within.

Madam Araba Tagoe has on numerous occasions, openly criticized the Western Regional Minister, Mr. Paul Evans Aidoo; his deputy, Alfred Ekow Gyan; and the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Chief Executive, Capt. Anthony Cudjoe (retired) for allegedly amassing wealth onto themselves and neglecting the youth of the party in the region.

Her continuous attack on these NDC heads on radio stations and in other public places has incurred the vexation of a faction of the party who sympathize with these regional NDC gurus.

Indeed, there is a sharp division in the current regional NDC executive body. One of the factions comprises of the Regional Minister, his deputy, MCE for Sekondi-Takoradi and some past and current regional executives of the party.

The other faction includes the NDC Regional Chairman, Mr. Michael Aidoo; Deputy Regional Women’s Organizer, Madam Araba Tagoe, Regional Youth Organizer, Mr. Yunos Mohammed, Regional Communication Officer, Famous Tumi; and several constituency executives.

This division is creating tension in the party in the region as members of either faction often run to radio stations to rain insults and accuse the other for some wrong doings.

Barely two months ago, a team led by Mr. Ofosu Ampofo, the National First Vice Chairman of the NDC, was dispatched to the region to bridge the gap between the two factions but that reconciliation effort went in vain.

Members of the faction belonging to the Regional Chairman and Araba Tagoe therefore suspect the attack on the outspoken women’s leader was orchestrated by the other faction.

The police have launched investigations into the matter.
