MP for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyepong says he is unconvinced by the reasons cited by vetting committees in various constituencies disqualifying some candidates.

He said some have been accused of being sponsored by the National Democratic Congress while others have been accused of various infractions for which reason they have been disqualified.

For him, the excuses used against some of the aspirants can serve as justification for those people, some of whom are valuable to defect to the National Democratic Congress.

He said this during the discussion segment on ‘Badwam’ on Adom TV on MultiTV Thursday.

Some candidates in Tema West, Dome Kwabenya have been disqualified by the vetting committees and subsequently by the regional steering committee.

One of the disqualified candidates Carlos Ahenkorah has disclosed that he has written to the appeals committee to try and overturn the decision.

He said he had heard that the regional committee voted on those disqualified but during his turn they suspended it due to dumsor.

Grounding his argument on what he called historical, the Assin Central legislator cited several high-profile NDC parliamentarians he said previously supported the NPP but left to join the NDC because they were not properly treated.

He said the aspirants ought to be allowed to contest the parliamentary primaries so that delegates will determine their fate.

In that case, he said if they lose, there won’t be any basis for them to leave the party even if they are aggrieved.
