Poor Patronage Of Voters Register Exhibition

The New Patriotic Party has noted with deep disquiet and concern, the general low turnout at the on-going voters register exhibition exercise. An exercise of this magnitude and importance necessarily ought to have been proceeded by wide consultations with political parties and other stakeholders. We believe that the inability or unwillingness of the EC to have properly involved and consulted with all stakeholder accounts for the low levels of public awareness and education about this important exercise. Regrettable also, the NPP received register days after the exercise began. The nature and form in which these register were delivered required time to get same to our officers on the ground. Reports from exhibition centres across the country also confirm low patronage coupled with several challenges and short comings such as the distortion of particulars of voters, the deletion of some particulars and several other errors. We call on the EC to as a matter of emergency, convene an IPAC meeting to deliberate on these and related matters. We call on all voters and the general public to take a keen interest in the exercise, visiting the various exhibition centers to check their particulars or to report the death of persons on the register, report on the inclusion of minors, foreigners and all persons unqualified to be on the voters roll. We particularly ask for the assistance of local chiefs and opinion leaders to assist and volunteer information on these matters. In the spirit of volunteerism, selflessness and sacrifice which are key attributes of the NPP, the party appeals to all executives of the party especially at the polling station level to take turns to monitor the exercise for the remaining days, adhering strictly to the operational directives which have been issued earlier. The party remains grateful to all our gallant polling executives who continue to sacrifice in the interest of the party and country. KWABENA AGYEI AGYEPONG GENERAL SECRETARY
