NDC Display Of �Vulgar Opulence� Sickening � Sammy Awuku

National Youth Organizer of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Sammy Awuku has described as �sickening� the growing reports of corruption in the Mahama-led administration. According to him, the government which professes to be sensitive to the plight of the ordinary Ghanaian �is rather milking the state�. �The kind of highlife and the vulgar display of opulence by President Mahama and his appointees is sickening� he bemoaned. Sammy Awuku made the comment whiles reacting to the alleged misappropriation of funds by the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), Madam Lauretta Lamptey. The Daily Graphic on Tuesday, September 16th, 2014 disclosed that the CHRAJ boss had used an estimated one hundred and eighty thousand Ghana cedis to renovate her official residence. She also spent 4,500 dollars every month for almost three years to rent an apartment at the plush AU Village since November 2011. Additionally, Madam Lamptey had since August been living in a hotel paying a daily rate of more than 450 dollars. Though she has been criticized for her action, Ms. Lamptey has justified her use of tax payer�s money for the renovations, rent and now hotel accommodation all in the last three years. But speaking on Asempa FM�s Ekosii Sen programme Friday, Sammy Awuku said the action taken by the CHRAJ boss is an �act of greed and insensitivity�. In his view, Lauretta Lamptey�s continuous stay in office is an affront to the people Ghanaians whose taxes she has misused. The NPP Youth Organizer was however not surprised about the profligate expenditure of the of the CHRAJ boss since according to him �the vulgar display of opulence is the order of the day in the Mahama government�. Sammy Awuku said it is about time Ghanaians change the rules of engage with government and teach the NDC the bitter lesson in the 2016 elections. "We can no longer see NDC as a strategic partner for development because they have demonstrated beyond reasonable doubt that they came to create, loot and share�.
