MP Escapes Lynching

THE MEMBER of Parliament (MP) for Bortianor/Ngleshie Amanfrom constituency, Bright Demodzi ran away from the constituency during the National Democratic Congress delegates congress when the irate delegates and party members decided to beat him up at Apraku in the Ga South Municipality. Mr. Demodzi after addressing the delegates realized that his message did not go down well with some of the delegates and sensed that if he did not leave the scene he would be sacrificed for the election. The MP addressing the delegates called for unity in the party and asked them to eschew acrimonies and ensure that the election comes to an end safely. But, according to the irate delegates, Mr Demodzi should not have said that because he was rather bringing disunity in the party. According to the irate delegates, the MP prior to the day of election was sharing money and campaigned for one of the candidates who is now the chairman, Wilson Hope Kokah, so the delegates asked on which moral ground can he tell someone to do away with acrimony? A day before the election, we saw the MP campaigning for Wilson Kokah and giving people money to vote for Wilson, so if MP who is supposed to be the father of everybody is doing this, how can you call for unity in the party in this constituency, some delegates said. They said the MP was very lucky that he left the place immediately he finished speaking, else they would have seriously beat him so that it would be a lesson to him, adding that as MP he need not support anyone whenever there is an internal election. After the MP ran away, the people started agitating for food, saying that the party executives are taking them for granted; as a result they stopped voting for almost three hours until the Ga South presiding member, Dan Sackey came and pleaded with them to start voting. Wilson Kokah contested with two people and had 139 votes out of 334 total votes cast. Samuel Ampiah was affirmed secretary, Mawuyram Asai won the organizing position, Isaac Akroboto won the youth organizer slot and Ezekiel Mustapha won deputy youth organizer seat.
