Minister Expresses Satisfaction With Registration Exercise

Mr Julius Debrah, the Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, has expressed satisfaction with the ongoing voters registration exercise in the Northern Region. He said most of the registration centres visited throughout the country had registered quite a number of voters, an indication of positive progress of work. Mr Debrah said this in Tamale on Monday when he paid a visit to some registration centres in the Tamale Metropolis and Savalugu in the Savaleugu/Nanton Municipality. He also inspected some ongoing development projects including the Aboabo market building, Affordable Housing Scheme at Gbalahagu and paid a courtesy call on the Metropolitan Chief Executive, Mr Hanan Abdul-Rahaman Gundadow. At the time of the Minister visit to the Kpatuli Electoral Area, 129 voters had registered with 19 rejected electoral forms, but at the Nayirefan Electoral Area of Savelugu Township, some of the registration machines had broken down prompting the Minister to order for their immediate replacement. Mr Debrah said pragmatic steps would be taken to address the numerous sanitation problems facing the metropolis, adding that Sanitation trucks and waste bins are being procured to deal with sanitation problems. He appealed to the Assembly to consider including a car park in the construction of the Aboabo market to give convenient parking space to visitors.
