Al-Hajj Offices Looted

An irate mob on Saturday night attacked and looted the premises of Mawarko Resturant at Mambo in Accra. The Mawarko Restaurant premises which also houses the offices of the Alhajj newspapers was attacked and looted by the irate mob simply because the owner, Alhaji Bature, who is also the editor of the Alhajj newspaper, staunchly refused to hand over to the mob a policemen who had run into the restaurant to seek refuge upon being chased by angry Mambobi youth after he[the policeman] had shot someone. The trigger-happy Policeman, realizing that he could become a victim of instant justice, was said to have run into Alhaji Batures restaurant for protection. However, the mob of angry youth stormed the restaurant demanding that the Policeman should be released for them deal with him in their own fashion. Alive to his civic responsibilities, Alhaji Bature staunchly refused to hand over the policeman to the mob, thus attracting their displeasure which resulted in his premises being looted and his cars destroyed. Speaking to this paper, yesterday, Alhaji Bature lamented the late response of the Police, observing that had the Police reacted promptly when the whole things started and a call was put through to them the nasty situation could have been averted. Meanwhile the trigger-happy policeman has been placed in custody while an investigation has been commenced into the whole saga.
