The Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Mr Joe Ghartey, has said one of the fundamental pillars of change that must occur within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is the choosing of the presidential candidate.
In his view, �the time for a new face, new ideas and a new generation has come.�
In a telephone interview yesterday, Mr Ghartey, who will be filing his nomination to contest the NPP presidential primaries today, declared that �The time for change has come in the country,� but first �the change must start from our party.�
Mr Ghartey, who is also the MP for Essikado Ketan, therefore, called on delegates of the party to elect and use him as the party�s presidential candidate to win political power for the party in the 2016 elections.
Also a former Attorney General and Minister of Justice, he said NPP delegates must not be afraid of change and that �the wind of change blowing is a positive wind and will bring us positive change and results.�
�This behoves the NPP to do things differently in order to get different results in the 2016 polls,� he advised members of the NPP.
Mr Ghartey told the Daily Graphic that when he was elected by the delegates, he would offer an inclusive and bold leadership which would lead the party to victory in 2016.
He said his political and social track records made him stand in a better stead of clinching political power for the NPP, if given the opportunity by the delegates at the party�s presidential primaries tentatively scheduled for December 6, 2014.
�I want the NPP and party delegates to elect me and use me to win political power, I have not come to be served by the party but to serve the party,� he declared.
He said he was seeking the high office of the presidential candidate of the NPP with humility and greater faith in God.
He, therefore, called on other candidates to conduct their campaign with decorum and decency.
�I want to remind all the aspirants and our party members of Abraham Lincoln�s wise saying that �You don�t break your brother�s house before you can build your own house.� We should be mindful of this fact that this is a family discussion so we should not do anything or say anything that will affect the unity of the family,� Mr Ghartey stressed.
Mr Alan John Kwadwo Kyeremanten and Mr Francis Addai-Nimoh filed their nominations to contest the presidential primaries last Thursday. Apart from Mr Ghartey, others yet to file are Nana Addo-Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Dr Kofi Konadu Apraku, and Mr Stephen Asamoah Boateng.
