Otiko Embarks On Unity Drive

National Womens Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Madam Otiko Afisa Djaba has announced plans to embark on a nationwide unity campaign, starting with her two competitors in the just-ended elections Tina Mensah and Mawusi Awity. She pledged to visit Tina Mensah and Mawusi Awity and extend an olive branch to them to build a strong womens wing that can lead the NPP to victory in 2016. Otiko Djaba polled 276 to beat her closest contender, Tina Mensah, who obtained 250 votes, while Mawusi Awity came third with 113 votes. Speaking to The Finder on her plans, Otiko Djaba said she would visit all polling stations, electoral areas, constituencies and regions to unite women to work for victory in 2016. She noted that women constitute more than half of Ghanas population and therefore a united womens force can lead the party to victory. Consequently, she called on all women of Ghana, especially former womens organisers, present and former women Members of Parliament, former women District Chief Executives, and women who held various positions in the party and government since the tradition was formed, to join hands with her to dethrone the National Democratic Congress (NDC). Otiko Djaba said the NDC has failed the people of Ghana, saying the NPP was the best party to govern Ghana, as demonstrated by President John Agyekum Kufuor, who introduced pro-poor programmes that benefited all Ghanaians. She also mentioned the free Senior High School programme trumpeted by Nana Akufo-Addo in the 2012 elections as testimony that the NPP cares about Ghanaians. She therefore promised: I want to lead and shepherd the women just like Sarah, Esther and Deborah in the Bible, to break down the NDC for NPP to capture power. Otiko Djaba said it is a privilege to serve the NPP, and was grateful to God for making it possible for her to retain her post as the sole survivor from the old executives. I feel humbled by the grace, mercies and favour that God has bestowed on me, she stated. She said even though she was not as experienced as some of the contestants, God favoured her to win. It was like angels came down to touch women to pray, campaign and vote for me, she observed. Otiko Djaba pledged to operate an open-door policy based on leadership by example to unite all women, including floating voters, to deliver victory for the NPP in 2016. She was thankful to all those who contributed in diverse ways to make her campaign successful.
