General Manager of the Chronicle Newspaper has apologised for a publication which suggested that the 2012 flagbearer of the NPP, Nana Akufo-Addo has endorsed the candidature of Paul Afoko for the position of chairmanship. Ebo Quansah told Myjoyonline.com that the publication was a complete misrepresentation and for that matter very regrettable. He said the publication will be retracted on Monday and an apology rendered. Since the National Delegates' conference of the NPP is due Saturday, Ebo Quansah believes apologising for the story on Friday on Myjoyonline.com is the proper thing to do. He said as a professional journalist, he was '"embarrassed" by the publication. The former NPP Communications Director had earlier on dismissed the report in an interview with Myjoyonline.com. The paper claimed Nana Akomea had confirmed Nana Akufo-Addo's endorsement of Paul Afoko. But Nana Akomea has dismissed the report. He explained that he had a call from Ebo Quansah who intimated Nana's endorsement of Paul Afoko. He said he responded in the affirmative thinking the editor was asking if he, Akomea had endorsed Paul Afoko. "I responded yes but that was some time ago in a meeting," he recounted. According to him, he scheduled a meeting with Mr Quansah to address a TESCON meeting at GIMPA and so he asked Mr Quansah to call him later for a lengthy chat. Somehow he saw the publication that Nana Akufo-Addo had endorsed Paul Afoko and that he Akomea had been quoted as the source of the endorsement. He said he was surprised that a one minute chat on phone was used as a story with the headline that Nana Addo had endorsed Afoko. Ebo Quansah later told Myjoyonline.com the call was to seek confirmation on whether Nana Akufo-Addo had confirmed Paul Afoko and not whether he Nana Akomea had confirmed Paul Afoko. He attributed the publication to a gross misunderstanding, something he said the Chronicle is not noted for. Nana Akomea also apologised to Nana Akufo-Addo for "any embarrassment" the publication may have caused him. The opposition party will elect new executives on Saturday in Tamale.
