MTN Gears Up For Heroes Of Change Awards Night

The MTN Heroes of Change awards ceremony will be held at the Accra International Conference Centre on Friday 4th April 2014. Launched in July 2013, the MTN Heroes of Change initiative is organised by the MTN Ghana Foundation, the Corporate Social Investment arm of telecommunications leader MTN, to recognize and reward individuals who have volunteered their time and resources to improve their communities through impactful community initiatives. Following the July 2013 launch, members of the public were asked to nominate people who have supported their communities in the areas of Education, Health, Economic Empowerment, Community Crusading, Environment and Social Protection. MTN received more than six hundred nominations. A total of 20 nominees where finally shortlisted by a jury made up of renowned citizens including Rev. Albert Ocran (Motivational Speaker), Dr. Doris Dartey (Communications Consultant), Mr. Mohammed Awal (Publisher) and Mr. Sidney Casely Hayford ( Economist). MTN televised the inspiring stories of the 20 nominees on select TV stations across the country. The final awards event will identify category winners and the ultimate MTN Hero of Change, and is being organized to recognize and reward the deserving Heroes for their contributions to the development of their communities. Mrs Cynthia Lumor, Executive Director of MTN Ghana Foundation said, �The MTN Heroes of Change programme has created an opportunity for ordinary people who are doing great work to be recognised. MTN is confident that with this kind of recognition others will be encouraged to emulate their example of selflessness and volunteerism, and our communities will benefit.� The ultimate �MTN Hero of Change� will receive project support of GH₵50,000. Category winners under Community Crusader, Social Protection, Health, Environment, Economic Empowerment and Education will each receive project support of GHc10,000 each, also for project support. The MTN Ghana Foundation has over the years invested significant resources to improve the lives of millions of people in Ghana. The projects are all focused on improving access to Health, Education and Economic Empowerment. In order to encourage the spirit of volunteerism in Ghana, the MTN Ghana Foundation launched the MTN Heroes of Change initiative in 2013. The company hopes that by recognizing individuals or groups who have impacted their communities positively through volunteer activities, others will be motivated to emulate their example.
