The 2012 presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has stated that the relationship between him and the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu, remains intact and stronger.
He said no amount of rumour and unfounded allegations against the Asantehene could mar the long-standing bond between them.
Nana Akufo-Addo made the declaration when he paid a courtesy call on Otumfuo on Wednesday to inform him about his return from abroad and about his next line of action with regards to whether or not he would contest the NPP flagbearership position again.
Earlier, Otumfuo, who had sat in state as part of Awukudae celebrations, received delegations from Delta State in Nigeria, Ghana Pensioners Association and West African College of Surgeons.
On February 21, 2014, Otumfuo denied rumours that he offered himself as a conduit to bribe the Supreme Court judges who adjudicated on the 2012 election petition to influence the verdict.
Nana Akufo-Addo, said any unfounded allegations and rumours peddled against Otumfuo affected him (Akufo-Addo) and vice versa.
Just after the 2012 presidential verdict in August 2013, Nana Akufo-Addo left for London to rest and also have a communion with his God about his future political plan.
Before he paid a courtesy call on Otumfuo, Nana Akufo-Addo had addressed party executives in the region and assured them that he would declare his intention about his political future through a press conference in Accra on March 20, 2014.
Speaking at Manhyia, Nana Akufo-Addo said as prescribed by the 1992 Constitution, the NPP felt dissatisfied with the result and challenged the result in the Supreme Court.
He said the court ruled not in their favour but as a law-abiding political party, they accepted the result.
He said the NPP had always remained a peaceful and law-abiding political party.
Speaking on behalf of Otumfuo, the Offinsomanhene, Nana Wiafe Akenteng, traced the formation of the National Liberation Movement, Northern People�s Party (NPP) and other antecedents of the current NPP.
He urged current politicians, especially those following Nana Akufo-Addo, to always be truthful and use decorous language.
