Chairman Wontumi Made An Unfair Victory Speech - John Jinapor

The Deputy Minister of Energy, John Jinapor has expressed astonishment that the newly elected Ashanti regional Chairman did not take advantage of his victory speech to call for unity in the party but towed the line which has brought rancor and acrimony in the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP). Though he believes Nana Akufo-Addo, the Presidential candidate of the NPP in the 2008 and 2012 elections would win the flagbearership race if he chooses to contest, he would have preferred Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako be in his utterances in order for him not to appear as bias towards a particular candidate. According to John Jinapor, the NPP must not lose sight of the fact that there is a bigger fight to win; the 2016 general elections, hence, must learn from the mistakes of the past which has caused confusion in the party. I have no doubt that Nana Akufo-Addo would win the primaries but there is a popular saying that born pikin no hard but the koko to feed am. Born pikin, you can easily win the primaries but the ultimate aim is to capture political power, he advised on Metro TV. The former spokesperson for then Vice President John Mahama made these comments in reaction to a call by Mr. Antwi-Boasiako, also known as Chairman Wontumi for party supporters to wake up to the new order and work towards the partys electoral ambition of winning the 2016 election with Nana Akufo-Addo, as the partys 2016 Presidential Candidate. He made this appeal during his victory speech over the weekend, after a landslide victory over his closest contender, Kwame Osei Prempeh. Many have ascribed the call by the vibrant Chairman Wontumi as a slip after a keenly contested Regional Chairmanship election, and the Deputy Minister of Energy is of the view that the comment was unfair to other party members interested in running for the flagbearership race.
