A couple of days ago, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. Mohammed Ahmed Alhassan, reportedly helped in apprehending a robber caught in the act of unpacking stolen goods from a van in the bush near the Kotoka International Airport. Musah Amadu, a 26-year-old marketing officer, was arrested, while three other accomplices are on the run. The culprits were allegedly transporting food prepared by an international catering service that supplies food and drinks to airlines at the Kotoka International Airport. Speaking to the issue, Lawyer Kwame Akufo deduced that �this is a security threat issue which should not be taken lightly�. To him, if food meant to be served to travelers on an airplane can be tampered with, then it is possible it can be poisoned. He has thus called on the National Security as well as the Aviation Authorities to investigate the matter and scrutinize agencies in charge of food as well as the hygienic conditions under which the food is prepared to avoid any disastrous consequences. �After reading the story I became alarmed about the safety of food served on the airplane. The food can be contaminated. Does it mean when the food is being transported to the airport it is not sealed; to the extent that some can be removed? "This is a very dangerous situation�if the food served on our various airlines is possible to be contaminated, then we need to be careful. Had it not been the IGP, we would not have known that such a crime was being committed," the renowned lawyer said. Speaking to Kwami Sefa Kayi on Peace FM�s morning show �Kokrokoo�, Lawyer Kwame Akufo bemoaned the inability of the police to delve deep into the issue but just decided to splash the news out there that: �IGP Arrests Robber�. According to him, �the IGP could have even started investigations into the issue after identifying the culprits; by finding out how safe the food was because if somebody can attempt to steal food (meant for airlines), it means other persons can equally attempt to poison it. We need to protect the food�these are some of the consumer protection issues we need to seriously look at instead of always dabbling in politics�.
