Konadu Rawlings To Join In Merchant/Fortiz Saga Demo?

A Group known as Public Action Against Corruption And Abuse will soon hit some principal streets in Kumasi to demonstrate against the sale of Merchant Bank to Fortiz. The group says all arrangements have been completed with the Ashanti Regional police Command and are ready to hit the metropolis with their massive demonstration. The group, a couple of weeks ago, held a protest march through some principal streets of Accra and the turn out was quite impressive. Speaking to Hello FM's King Edward this morning, one of their leaders, the Deputy Communication Director for National Democratic Party(NDP), Ernest Owusu Bempah said the main aim of the demonstration is to stop the criminal transaction by government to sell state properties to its cronies at the expense of SSNIT contributors. Fortiz has acquired 90 percent stake in Merchant Bank with GHc90 million. The sale became a subject of legal tussle after anti-graft campaigner, Andrew Awuni challenged the sale at the High Court. It is about time we stand up for what is right. We are going to let the whole world know how corrupt and insensitive the NDC-led John Mahama administration is, he fumed.
