Calm Returns To NPP In B/A?

The Brong-Ahafo Regional Executives of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) have rescinded a decision to charge GHc200 from members of the party vying for various positions in the region. This was confirmed by the partys Regional Election Committee Chairman, Joachim Sah. According to him, a call from the NPP Headquarters in Accra directed that the additional GHc 200 being charged as feeding fees for members of the party contesting for positions in the Region be stopped. The order was given in less than ten (10) minutes after the host of Me Man Nti on NEAT FM broke the news. The NPP, in the Brong-Ahafo Region, is set to go to the polls on Saturday, to elect party executives in the Region. However, many including Kwesi Korang, an aspiring Regional Organizer, were shocked to receive a message which directed all candidates to pay up a sum of GHc 200 before voting day or face disqualification. All is almost set for about 520 delegates, 16 each from the 29 constituencies in the region, to attend the one day congress to be held at the Pastoral Center in Sunyani. But the party appears to be in turmoil in the lead up to the delegates congress, with a legal battle between three card bearing members of the party namely; Mr Adu Bempah, an Electoral Area Coordinator at Amantin Market Square, Mr Mapha Abubakar, an Electoral Area Coordinator at Nyomoase and Mr. Eric Koranteng, a member of the Communication Team at the Wenchi High Court in Brong-Ahafo. They are praying the court through the motion, to declare as null and void the purported polling station elections conducted by the Chairman, the Research Officer, Organizer, Womens Organizer, Youth Organizer etc, with the Secretary and the 1st Vice Chairman exempted. The law suit was triggered by the disqualification of 352 old polling station executives from the polling stations primaries. However, the directive form the NPP Headquarters to stop the collection of GHc 200 from aspirants has come as welcoming news which will go a long way to calm nerves in the region.
