Part One Of NPPS All Die Be Die Elections Set

The regional elections of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) starting nationwide this weekend can be described as the first of three internal elections dubbed All Die Be Die for the party. The three crucial internal elections are the election of regional executives, followed by the election of national executives then the most gargantuan of all of them the election of the 2016 flagbearer. The conduct of these three elections have been described as All Die Be Die because it will determine whether the cohesion of the NPP would improve or will degenerate. This weekends elections are likely to be tense in a number of regions especially Greater Accra; Ashanti; Brong Ahafo; Western and Central. In Ashanti the race for the regional chairman of the NPP has bred a lot of acrimony within the Party. The regions party elders should quickly hold meetings between the victors and vanquished, to appeal for calm. The failure to call for calm could result in high levels of apathy in the region in the 2016 elections. The outcome of the NPPs regional elections in Greater Accra will go a long way to determine the partys chances in the region in 2016 elections. The tension in the region has been heightened by comments by the NPPs Member of Parliament (MP) for Ablekuma West, Mrs. Ursula Owusu-Ekuful. She has called on delegates in Greater Accra not to re-elect the existing regional executives because the NPP lost in the 2008 and 2012 elections. A number of leading members in the Greater Accra are very angry with Ursulas comment. One of them told the Daily Dispatch, if the Ablekuma West MPs reason for insulting the existing regional executives in Greater Accra is because the NPP lost, how about regional executives in the Central and Western regions? The NPP also lost in these two regions in 2008 and 2012. why the discrimination against the Greater Accra executives? The second of the All Die Be Die elections will be held on March 1, 2014 that is the election of national executives.
