I'll Still Stand By Akufo-Addo if - Kennedy Agyapong

Outspoken New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong, has declared his unflinching support for Nana Akufo-Addo should he decide to make a third bid for the presidency. According to him, his decision is borne out of the massive public outcry for the statesman [Akufo-Addo] to be the partys candidate ahead of the 2016 general elections. I am still standing by Nana because majority of Ghanaians believe he is the key to NPP victory in 2016. Kennedy Agyapongs endorsement comes after the NPP General Secretary and other executives openly declared their support for Nana Addo following the Supreme Court's dismissal of the petition challenging the legitimacy of President John Mahama. This incessant support for Akufo-Addos candidature has increased the pressure on him to contest the flagbearership position of the party. The NPP's 2012 presidential candidate who was initially expected in the country on January 27 to declare his political future, has postponed his return for personal reasons. Speaking on an Accra based radio station Oman FM Wednesday, Kennedy Agyapong said the NPP has no other choice than to bring Nana because he is the peoples choice. He claimed some very educated business women approached him and threatened to withdraw their support should the NPP make a mistake and change Akufo-Addo as flagbearer. The outspoken Assin Central MP indicated that given the socio-economic hardship the incompetent John Mahama-led administration has plunged the country into, the NPP is the only alternative party. This notwithstanding, Kennedy Agyapong said he will not hesitate to support Alan Kyeremanten should Akufo-Addo decide to retire from partisan politics. He stated that it will be better for Alan to become president than any person from the failed National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration. On his call on party delegates to vote against the current NPP executives at the party's national delegates congress in March, Kennedy Agyapong maintained that dishonest people are not fit to be at the helm of affairs of the party. Honesty is the key to NPPs unity; we need committed, dedicated and honest people to steer the affairs of the party he stressed.
