Deputy Energy Minister John Abdulai Jinapor has thrown cold water on suggestions that he has successfully convinced his younger brother, Samuel Abdulai Jinapor, to defect from the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) to the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The Herald newspaper claimed in its Wednesday January 22, 2014 edition that Mr Samuel Jinapor, who served as aide to the NPP�s Nana Akufo-Addo in the 2012 electioneering period and was a vociferous critic of the Mills-Mahama administration, had defected to the NDC �after being accused of spying for John Mahama.�
According to the Herald, �Despite his many exploits within the NPP, Mr Jinapor was accused of being a mole in the NPP, silently working for his Gonja brother, John Mahama and the NDC during the 2012 Electioneering campaign...
�Other family sources have also revealed that Mr Jinapor�s senior brother, John Jinapor, is eyeing the Yapei Kusawgu constituency seat�Samuel Jinapor has been warned to go slow on the criticism of his brother�s government.�
His accusers also point to his sudden disappearance off the political landscape in the aftermath of the 2012 elections and his recent marriage to the daughter of the Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture, Nayon Bilijo, as further evidence of his defection.
However, Mr Jinapor senior has dismissed suggestions that he has convinced his younger brother to leave the party he joined while in the University, saying although he knew the younger Jinapor has a lot of NDC friends, �I don�t know him as an NDC member. It�s not true my brother has defected.�
Speaking on Adom FM�s Dwaso Nsem morning show, John Abdulai Jinapor insisted that his younger brother was old enough to take such decisions on his own, in consultation with his wife.
In any case, he continued, �We hardly talk politics because some years back when we talked politics it brought disagreements between us.
�He (Samuel Jinapor) is a married man with a good paying job, so I�m not the one to advice him. If he wants to join any party he doesn�t need to consult me, he will talk to his wife.�
He however warned his brother, who is now a lawyer, to be mindful of the people he associates with, especially those in the NPP.
"If NPP say he is a spy then he needs to be very cautious, they may be planning something evil against him, he warned.
"When we NDC meet we plan on how to take our message out there, that�s why we won. If they will waste their time on finger pointing and evil plans, then Sammy needs to be careful."
Responding to the accusations earlier on Dwaso Nsem, Samuel Abdulai Jinapor categorically denied defecting from the NPP, and challenged his accusers to provide proof to back up their claims.
However, the Managing Editor of the Herald newspaper, Larry-Alans Dogbey insists his story is accurate.
