Govt Turns Fire On Akomea

A Deputy Minister of Information and Media Relations, Murtala Mohammed has accused the immediate past Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Nana Akomea as having a direct hand in the scam that has attended the Ghana Youth Employment and Entrepreneurial Development Agency (GYEEDA) programme recently. Speaking in an interview on Multi TVs PM Express, Murtala stated that the former NPP Communications Director has no moral right to jump into the frontline as the lead critic of the youth-program-gone-bad since he was part of the architects of the failure of NYEP/GYEEDA. Murtala Mohammed said, Nana Akomea could not exonerate himself from all the criminalities associated with the program after sending public service teachers to teach in some private schools during his time as a supervising authority at the NYEP. The Information Minister revealed saying; I have an NYEP appointment letter signed by the Nana Akomea sending NYEP beneficiaries to teach in a private school. That is not only illegal it is criminal, adding that you dont pay a teacher who teaches in a private school by the state. But Nana Akomea in his reaction explained that the purpose of sending NYEP beneficiaries to teach in private schools was to give them experience and to expose them to work. He said the NYEP teachers formed a very very small part of the program and was done under exceptional circumstances. The whole thing was to give jobs to young people, he noted and pointed out that fake bank accounts that certain GYEEDA officials opened to ostensibly rob the state was what should engage Murtala Mohammeds attention.
