Confusion Rocks Western Region NPP Elections

The Western Regional Executive Elections of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) scheduled for January 25, 2014 is likely to be marred by a group of party members in the Ahanta West Constituency. The group is pointing accusing fingers at Charles Onuawonto Bissue, regional secretary of the NPP, for claiming to be a lawyer. The group, however, alleged that during the vetting of Mr Bissue, it was revealed that the regional secretary aspirant was not a lawyer after all, as he had previously claimed. He stated on his forms to the vetting committee that he is a lawyer. He has also emphatically stated on his posters that he is a qualified lawyer and goes about saying he practices in the Nana Akufo Addos Chambers, the group noted. The group had called on the vetting committee to disqualify Mr Bissue from the contest since he engaged in impersonation. In an interview with Daily Guide, the leader of the group, Joseph Yaw Baidoo, who is also the first vice chairman of the NPP in the Ahanta West Constituency hinted that Mr Bissue contested the parliamentary primaries of Ahanta West in the 2012. According to the first vice chairman of the Ahanta West Constituency, Mr Bissue went round telling the delegates that he was a qualified lawyer. Mr Baidoo noted that the nomination forms frowned on any applicant who indulged in false declaration on his or her status just as the partys constitution. I am therefore calling on the vetting committee to disqualify Mr Bissue from the race, he pointed out. When Daily Guide called a member of the vetting committee, Mr Ackah Gyasi stated, The committee has not decided to disqualify any of the candidates. He told Daily Guide that a decision would be taken on the matter by the close of the week. Meanwhile, attempts by Daily Guide to reach Mr Bissue to react to the allegation proved futile.
