Ghanaians Have Been Shortchanged; Afari Gyan Should've Been Imprisoned

Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Asokwa, Maxwell Kofi Jumah wants the Chairman of the Electoral Commission (EC), Dr. Kwadwo Afari-Gyan to spend the rest of his life in prison. According to him, Ghanas first ever biometric verification (BV) machine and registration process which was introduced by the EC during 2012 general election was just a waste of the public purse. He added that the huge amount expended on the registration and the biometric machine could have been used for other purposes for the betterment of the country. US96 million thrown to the dogs, uselessthe machine is useless and indeed if I had my way, Afari-Gyan alone will be in jail today for causing financial loss, he said. Speaking at the NPPs media forum held at the partys headquarters to assess President John Mahamas first year in office, the former legislator wondered why Kenya used the same verification machine but spent far less an amount of money to execute the process. Kenya has 45 million people and went through biometric registration just as we did. They registered 14 million voters, Ghana also went through biometric registration, barely half Kenyas population24 million, we also registered 14 million voters. They bought approximately 36,000 biometric machines for US16 million. Ghana bought about the same 32,000 or yet we paid US96 million, Kofi Jumah asserted. He thus wants Dr. Afari Gyan to be in incarcerated for causing the nation such as a whooping financial loss.
