GYEEDA Had No Legal Framework - Kobby Acheampong

Kobby Acheampong, the National Coordinator of Ghana Youth Employment and Entrepreneurial Development Agency (GYEEDA), has disclosed that GYEEDA had no legal framework in place, hence the need for one to be established. According to him, the termination of all service contracts by government was because the companies involved did not meet the value for money audit which was undertaken by GYEEDA. He added that the decision is part of processes to ensure the re-structuring of GYEEDA to make its operations more effective. The GYEEDA Boss told Shamima Muslim on Citi eyewitness news Tuesday that the Attorney Generals Department in collaboration with GYEEDA is currently working on a legal framework that will make the agency more effective and accountable. If you allow people to come and provide services that require government to spend money on it, then there was the need to actively monitor and evaluate how these services were being runinternal mechanisms and structures in GYEEDA were not adequate to meet the kind of services" he said. The GYEEDA National Coordinator was confirming the abrogation of contracts of various companies under GYEEDA by government. He added that nobody will be affected by the ongoing re-structuring of GYEEDA due to the fact that as of July 2013, everybody who was on the GYEEDA module has exited the programme and monies owed them have been paid by government. A statement from the Ministry of Youth and Sports and signed by the Chief Director of the Ministry, Alhaji Abdulai Yakubu specified that all service contracts being provided by Rlg Communication, Asongtaba Cottage Industry & Exchange Programme (ACI&EP) and the Better Ghana Management Services Limited, a subsidiary of Jospong Group have been cancelled.
