Wa Central NPP Issues Ultimatum

Some youth representing various youth clubs within the New Patriotic Party in the Wa Central Constituency in the Upper West Region have issued an ultimatum to the constituency executive of the party to comply with their internal election directives. The group said failure by the constituency chairman and his executive to comply with the specific aspects of their mandate would force them to slap an injunction on the appointees through court procedures. They said recent appointments by party executive in the constituency contained an element of a syndrome they called family, friends and cronies who were appointed just to influence a certain voting pattern in the upcoming regional party elections. At a news conference in the constituency, the group said their executive had conveniently overlooked the aspect of the partys constitution which dictates that within 14 days of their election, the elected constituency officers and the member of Parliament or parliamentary candidate shall, in consultation with the regional executive committee, appoint the officers who are specified to be appointed. The document, which was read at the news conference was signed by Seidu Nurideen (Kaduna Youth Club), Askia Momori (Kabanye Youth Club), Dodoo Sadat (Nima Youth Club), Adams Mahmood and their spokesman Yussif Fatawu (both Numbu Youth Club). According to them, the constituency executive had instead forced a gang of cronies on the party members through means that were never transparent. The worst of it all is that the parliamentary candidate, the constituency secretary, the second vice chairman and the regional executive committee were not consulted (before the appointments as demanded by Article 6(5)a of the partys constitution). This is a fundamental breach with great impunity, and should not be overlooked. This action is not only unfortunate but also alien to the New Patriotic Party. We the youth clubs in this constituency, therefore, wish to inform the constituency executive that we will resist this illegal or galamsay way of running the affairs of the party. We will never relent in our efforts until the right thing is done, they said. They questioned, for instance, the rationale behind a decision that an assistant secretary should perform duties of the General Secretary, Iddrisu Bomison, when the secretary is not indisposed, is of sound mind and has not travelled. Efforts to reach the party chairman in the constituency for his reaction failed.
