NDC MP: It Is Not My Duty To Support A Thief In The NDC..

The Minority in Parliament on Thursday accused the Speaker of Parliament, Rt Hon Edward Doe Adjaho, of conspiring with the Majority side of the House to prevent a debate on the sale of Merchant bank sale to Fortiz Private Equity Fund. A motion filed by the Minority side was shot down by the Speaker who ruled that debating the matter would amount to usurping the powers of the Court hearing the case. The Minority thereafter held a press conference saying it will conduct its own investigations into the matter following what it termed as the use by the Majority group of its numbers to stifle official parliamentary investigations. The purpose of our self-imposed enquiry is not to stir the hornets nest. It is not intended to witch-hunt anybody or undermine any legitimate process that is above board. We are aware that the banks depend largely on their reputations. Notwithstanding, we intend to apply a fine comb to analyse the sale to ensure that if at all it had to be sold, the people whose monies have been invested would have value for money, said the Minority Leader, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu said. But a Member of the Majority side of the House, representing the people of Techiman South Constituency, Hon. Agyei Mensah says the noise by the NPP caucus in Parliament is much ado about nothing. According to him, it is highly inconceivable that all the officials of SSNIT, Bank of Ghana and KPMG who did due diligence on the transaction on the sale of the Merchant Bank to Fortiz Equity Fund could be members of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC). since when did SSNIT officials, Bank of Ghana officials and KPMG officials who did due diligence on the transaction on the sale of the Merchant Bank to Fortiz, become members of NDC? NPP is going about telling Ghanaians that these officials are members of NDC who have connived to dupe the country, yet they have no evidence to back their claims, he stated. Speaking to Hot Fm, Hon. Agyei Mensah opined that continuous dishonesty in politics has made the fight against corruption almost impossible as politicians have resorted to the use of lies to push forward their political agenda. He pointed out that he will rather concern himself with issues affecting his constituents in the Techiman South Constituency than offer his backing to a thief in the NDC. ..my duty is that I have to provide the needed support for the people of Techiman South and it is not my duty to support a thief in NDC as against the needs of my people in my Constituency who are in dying need of good water and electricity, he said.
